Redmi Note 6 Pro Review

Xiaomi, the Chinese Smartphone and Tech Brand have been on to a mission; to beat all the brands with great hardware power and aggressive price ranges. Redmi being a sub-brand of Xiaomi, is running on the same race. Sheer Hardware power in a really low and affordable price point makes Redmi Note 6 pro a blockbuster right after its predecessor, the Redmi Note 5 pro. At the price of well below 200 bucks (189.99 USD to be exact) and delivering a finished product with a killer 4 GB and 6 GB variant with a whopping boost of Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC Octa-Core, Redmi Note 6 Pro has all the right to rule the mid-range smartphone market. In this article, we will give you a redmi note six pro review.

Redmi Note 5 Pro is a sheer hit in the market. Its successor, Redmi Note 6 Pro, is all set to hit the market with a bang! But as every good thing has some limitations, Redmi Note 6 Pro has some too. Xiaomi has been making products. In a hurry to hit the market first and hit hard. While maintaining this momentum. Xiaomi does get a bit clingy and similar impressions. It has been detected with this unit as well. Can this smartphone be a worthy successor? Let us find it out.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro review

Before going to the full Redmi note six pro review, I would like to discuss the criteria on which we will be judging the smartphone.

The Criteria are:

  • Design
  • Display
  • Performance
  • Camera
  • Battery
  • Sensors and Other Features
  • Water Resistance

These criteria are sufficient to determine a smartphone’s acceptance and the ability to be a force to reckon with. So let us dig into the full review.

Design: The Same Mold Over and Over Again, But With a Twist!

Let us take three smartphones of Xiaomi; Redmi Note 6 Pro, Note 5 Pro, and Xiaomi Mi A2. Then put it on the table upside down. It would be very hard to differentiate the phones by looking at the design of the backside. All of them are nearly identical in terms of design, camera positioning, and branding. However, the main thing which makes the Redmi Note 6 Pro stand out is the Notch. Yes, it comes with a notch where the dual selfie camera lies with the all-important sensors and the earpiece. The form factor is not a big trouble. In fact, the phone is really comfortable to hold on to. The 182 g weighted phone might seem to be a bit heavy, but if you want a big battery, then you will have to sacrifice 20 grams for that dude!

The screen to body ratio is 81.9%, which is fairly nice at this price point. The frame of the phone is made out of poly carbon plastic. However, a metal backplate sits over the frame, which gives a hoax about the phone being fully metallic, which is nice to some extend, though.

The camera bump is one of the flaws for Xiaomi phones as some users do complain about getting their cameras scratch just for the bump. The camera bump also causes the phone to hold upright a little bit, causing the phone to be unstable when kept on a flatter surface.

And

All the buttons, power and volume rockers are settled on the right and the hybrid sim slot on the right. The power button is nice and crisp. But the volume rocker should have been a bit elevated though nothing to be worried about. There are a 3.5 mm headphone jack, an IR emitter, and a secondary microphone placed on the top of the phone. The speaker grill and the Micro-USB port is at the bottom of the smartphone. Though there are two speaker grills, there is a mono loudspeaker on the right grill, not entirely sure why Xiaomi decided to do this. And lastly, about the Micro-USB port. Xiaomi has been a heartbreaker here; they could have easily included a USB type 3 here as a similar price point competitors are offering that. Shame Xiaomi!

That was all for the design. If someone wanted me to rate it, I would give it a 7 out of 10. Fair enough design at this price range.

Display: The Notch!

Xiaomi is known for a good display in a budget smartphone, and Redmi Note 6 Pro is not an exception. With a full HD display with a resolution 1080×2280 pixels and measuring 6.26 inches, Redmi Note 6 Pro is a good variant. It has an aspect ratio of 19:9. So when you are viewing videos on YouTube, you would likely get the best experience out of it. The refresh rate of the screen is pretty good, and the color and sharpness of the picture are very vivid and eye-pleasing too. A good job is done, Xiaomi!

I would like to rate it a solid 8!

Performance: The Stronghold of Xiaomi Smartphones

The performance of any smartphone depends entirely on the hardware and software collaboration. The Hardware is a sheer winner at this price point. When I started to write the Redmi note six pro review, I was eagerly waiting to write about the hardware excellence, but I wish I could say the same with the UI and software too. Let us tear the phone apart and see what’s inside—just kidding! I am not asking to tear it down; I am stating that for you.

Hardware

Let us first look into the processor. This unit comes with the same Octa-Core Processor, which was in the Redmi Note 5 Pro. ‘Why to change the shirt if it does not stink!’ has been the mantra for Xiaomi in this smartphone range, I guess. Whatever it might be, frankly speaking. Qualcomm Snapdragon 336 SoC is not an old processor. So chill, guys! Many other similar competitors are also using SoCs as their processor. The Octa-Core processor has four cores dedicated to performance and four cores for stability and software back up. There is some engineering going on in Qualcomm to give us the best experience, and yet they have not failed us.

We have done some measures and benchmarks on the device to examine the gauge performance, and the scores were not that much contrasting if we compare it with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. The Redmi Note 6 Pro scored 115,875 in AnTuTu. In Geekbench, it scored 1,326 and 4,866 as per as the 4’s single-core and multi-core tests are concerned.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro comes in two variants of Ram. One is of 4 GB, and the latter is 6 GB. Both the variants come with an internal storage of 64 GB. Users and consumers who need more storage to cover up their needs can easily insert a Micro SD Card up to 128 GB in the Hybrid Slot. But the expansion comes at a sacrifice. You will have to give up a sim card to expand your storage.

Software

The software is a bit dodgy as per a typical Xiaomi smartphone is concerned. The custom MIUI looks good and is upgradable to the latest version 10. The stock version is based on Android 8.1 Oreo, and that is fairly workable. The apps are nice, but some stock app often shows adds which is pretty disturbing. The UI Interface is pretty good, no lag at all. We played PUBG in minimal settings, and it ran very smoothly. However, the phone does get a bit warm when it is in heavy usage.

Overall I rate the performance yet another solid 8.

Camera: The Typical 12 Mega Pixels

Xiaomi is satisfied with the 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel rear camera configuration from the Redmi Note 5 Pro. But the 12-megapixel sensor used in this device new. It has a 1.4-micron pixel size and dual-pixel autofocus. It acquires an f/1.9 aperture, which should help it to pull in more light than its predecessor, which had an f/2.2 aperture. The secondary camera has a 5-megapixel depth sensor. It is used when taking portrait shots. At the front Notch, it has a 20-megapixel selfie camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The primary sensor, which is used here equips with a 4-in-1 pixel—Binning method to have an effective pixel size of 1.8 microns.

Great images can be generated using this device. The results will not disappoint you. I rate this a fair eight as well.

The video is supported up to Full HD. That means you can record some HD quality clips with anti-shake feature and the aperture of the cameras does spice things up a little bit. Overall the videography experience will not disappoint you either.

I will rate it an eight because of the absence of 4K recording feature. Xiaomi should have been including this feature to capture the market more.

Battery: 4000 MAh Mega Power

It has a 4000 MAh battery which can give you proper juice the whole day. But heavy usage can be a bit of power-consuming. This device is compatible with Quick Charge 3.0. But the stock charger comes with a 10-watt range, so we will have to buy a quick charger to avail this facility.

I rate this 9 out of 10 because I really like the power it backs up when the device is in full use all day.

Sensors and Other Features

It has a fingerprint sensor, proximity sensor and accelerometer built-in. IR Emitter is a unique feature, which can be used with IR controlled appliances like Televisions. Air Conditioner and any other home appliances.

The Sensors works really fine as they are meant to be. That has no issues what so ever.

Water Resistance

Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with a P2i coating as a viable Water Resistant feature.

Conclusion

The redmi note 6 pro review has been fun to write, and the smartphone itself was pretty good to use as well. Products such as Redmi Note 6 Pro are a decent deal in this very price point. Smartphones which are the competitors of this device in this price point is Nokia 6.1 Plus and the Motorola One Power. I must tell you the competition is almost neck to neck. The competitors have USB type three, but identical processors as our Redmi Note 6 Pro. But the battery of 4000 MAh is a big plus point for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro. Yet all the devices are fun to use. But Xiaomi Users and lovers will surely be loving the experience of this product.

After the review, all the tests and experiments were done on this product. We can say that Redmi Note 6 Pro is a worthy successor of the previous hit Redmi Note 5 Pro. I rate this product a solid 8 out of 10. Kudos to Xiaomi and the hardworking team. Who is working on these amazing devices? Just to satisfy our thrust of getting technologically advanced.
