Vivo V15 Pro Review

Chinese brands like Vivo are really kicking the ground hard as they are marching with an army of unique smartphones launched in recent times. Such a phone is mid-range.  The all-new Vivo V15 Pro review has been a real attraction in the crowd right after launch. But as the phone is mainly targeting the Indian fans, people from around the globe may need to buy an import. But is it worth your hard-earned pennies? We are here to find out that for you.

The brand new Vivo V15 Pro was launched in the first trimester of the year, 2019. The main attraction of the phone is the screen and the signature pop up selfie camera. But honestly speaking, considering the market nowadays, there is a lot of competition in the mid-range smartphones. So Vivo will have to do something really impressive to get this phone up and running.

Now, let us move into the review of the Vivo V15 Pro.

Vivo V15 Pro Review: The Mid Range Hero or Zero?

My first impression of this phone was like, ‘Wow!’ then after some split seconds, it was like, ‘Why?!’ You might have guessed that there are a ton of questions hovering inside my head. So we will be discussing those points on a broad basis.

Before making an impression on the Vivo V15 Pro, I would like to examine some of the key components and features of the phone. These criteria will give proper knowledge about the phone, and I will have an in and out the thought of the phone. The criteria are:

  • Design
  • Display
  • Performance
  • Camera
  • Battery
  • Sensors and Other Features
  • Water Resistance

So without wasting any words, let us move on to the first segment, which is the design of the Vivo V15 Pro.

The Design of the Vivo V15 Pro: The Sleek and Stylish!

[amazon box=”B07KXC1YGG” template=”horizontal”]

As far as the design of the smartphones is concerned, Vivo has been vigilant in this sector. They have been experimenting with the designs ever since they have launched their smartphone. But that does not mean that the designs are not good. In fact, they are bringing an extra kick on the table.

The phone is made out of plastic. I do expect a glass back as well, especially when you are buying a phone at this price point. Nevertheless, the phone has a plastic back, and the frames are made out of plastic as well.

Speaking of design, the Vivo V15 Pro is indeed a stylish phone. It is available in Topaz Blue, Coral Red, and Ruby Red. The unit which we have with us today is the Ruby Red version. I must tell you, the design and the gradient look amazing.

And

The phone has a dimension of 6.19 inches in length, 2.94 inches in width and 0.32 inches in the breadth. The phone is weighted at around 185 grams.

As far as the attributes are concerned, the phone has a slimmer rounded edge that gives a comfortable feeling. The front part is the screen itself. The screen is notch-less as the selfie camera is shifted to the motorized pop-up mechanism. The back part in-housed the triple camera setup with the dual-LED flash. The power button and the volume adjustment key is on the right side of the phone. The left side is basically blank. The phone comes with a 3.5 mm headphone jack. But the most setback of this phone is that it still comes with a USB Type 2 where almost every other competitors are including it in their smartphones.

As far as the design is concerned, it is a decent design. I would like to encourage Vivo to take some necessary steps on their upcoming products to reduce the shortcomings.

Now let us move on to the second segment, which is the Display of the Vivo V15 Pro.

The Display of the Vivo V15 Pro: The AMOLED Full Screen!

Perhaps the main attraction of this phone is the display itself. Vivo has opted to select the all-time hit AMOLED screens in the Vivo V15 Pro.

The screen is a 6.39 Super AMOLED display with a full high definition resolution. That means the resolution is 1080 pixels into 2340 pixels. The screen is basically notched less. This screen will offer you the desired full-screen viewing experience. The screen to body ratio is almost close to 84.9 per cent. The aspect ratio is 19:5:9.

The screen is a pretty bright screen as far as the AMOLEDs should be. But the main game-changing factor is that the resolution, sharpness, AMOLED blacks and the colour combination.

Overall I loved the screen. The viewing experience was top-notch, and I have to tell you, this screen works fine in the bright light conditions. Extra features like always-on display are the main standouts for the AMOLED screen but at the cost of significant battery life.

Now let us talk about the performance of the Vivo V15 Pro.

Performance of the Vivo V15 Pro: The Snapdragon Mid-Ranger!

Before starting my initial expression about the Vivo V15 Pro, I would like to examine the software and the hardware unit. The main concept of my inspection will be to understand the collaboration between the two units. The specs and the incarnations are given as follows:

Hardware

This phone comes with a mid-range yet powerful chipset created by Qualcomm. Qualcomm has been the first choice of many smartphone brands, and Vivo has been using it from the very beginning. The chipset of the Vivo V15 Pro is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675. This is not the most powerful in the market, but it is still better than the 715 chipsets which are widely used nowadays, especially in the mid-rangers. This 11 Nanometer Octa-Core processor runs at a clock speed of 2.0 GHz for the first two Kryo 460 Gold. The remaining 6 Kryo 460 Silver runs in a clock speed of 1.7 GHz.

The phone has a RAM of two Variant; 6 GB and 8 GB. The internal storage is 128 GB. The storage, however, is expandable and has an extra dedicated micro SD card slot. The SIM Tray and the Micro SD Card Slot is separated in this phone which you will not be able to see now often.

Now let us focus on the software unit.

Software

This phone runs in Android. The version of Android is Android Version which is commonly known as PIE. The UI is the Vivo’s signature Fun Touch UI. It is of version 9.

There is some special feature about this User Interface. And that is the approach. It is more of an IOS rather than stock android. For example, the slider notification bar does slide from the top. But the quick access tool slides down from the bottom. There are other several gestures as you can customize it by the settings. You can also set themes of your own choice.

Overall the performance of the phone is pretty solid. The full-screen experience does add up to the tally. The multitasking is pretty hectic, and the gaming experience is also pretty decent. The phone does get heated up when the phone is pushed a little harder.

Now, as we have seen the performance, let us shift the focus light to yet another important as well as the exciting factor of the phone. Yes, you have guessed it right, I am talking about the cameras of the Vivo V15 Pro.

Cameras of Vivo V15 Pro: the Triple Cameras and the PopUP!

Cameras have slowly become essential for any smartphone nowadays. But I still remember the days when VGA camera phone was a luxury item. Back then, the camera phones were the talk of the tech world. Now, in modern times, having no cameras in smartphones is considered as a sin, to be honest. But amidst the crowd of phones, what are the key factors to determine the camera as the stand out camera from all?

I tell you about it. The cameras are a vital part, as I mentioned earlier. But a good camera is considered by some certain criteria. Better light sensors, good ambience, good colour and picture are softening and above all detection of the environment.

The phone which we have today is the Vivo V15 Pro. The cool thing about this phone is that it has a motorized pop-up selfie camera module. That means the selfie camera pops up when it is activated. To finish things up, the rear camera is a staggering triple camera module.

Also

The rear camera comes with the triple camera setup. The first camera is considered as the main camera. It is a 26 nm wide-angle camera. It is of 48 Mega Pixels camera with an aperture count of f/1.8. The second camera is an ultra-wide camera. It a 13 nm lens of 8 Mega Pixels. The aperture count is of f/2.2. The last one is not a camera rather than a sensor. It is a depth sensor rather. It is of 5 Mega Pixel, and the aperture count is of f/2.4.

The Pop Up selfie camera is also a wide-angle camera and is very sleek and fun looking. Nevertheless, it is a 32 Mega Pixels camera with an aperture count of f/2.0.

As far as the picture quality is concerned, I am a little bit disappointed, to be honest. The pictures are decent in bright light areas. But there is visibly lacking in the photos as some shots do come out a bit jittered in certain areas. The night mode was a pretty good one as it has a good shadow sensing capability. But the details are still not up to the mark. The Ultra Wide photos are pretty good, and the edge detection is pretty decent. But the quality and distortion is still a problem. The portrait is not that good as per as the expectation is concerned. As we have witnessed the portraits had a poor edge detection, and that is where the camera falls apart.

And

The selfie camera, however, produces decent selfies altogether. The videography can be shot at a maximum resolution of 4k at a frame rate of 30 frames per second as far as the rear cameras are concerned. The front pop up camera is capable of recording up to 1080p at the frame rate of 30 frames per second.

The videos are quite decent and good in details. But in 4k the electronic image stabilization is missing. If we want an additional stabilization, then we will have to downgrade the resolution to 1080p, and the frame rate should be of 30 frames per second.

Next up, we will be discussing the battery and the power management unit.

The battery of the Vivo V15 Pro: Still USB Type 2?!

When everyone, even some of the low budget phones are getting along with the advance techs like USB Type C connectors, Vivo has installed an ancient USB Type 2 in the Vivo V15 Pro. This is a pretty foolish thing to do as the phone is a mid-range phone.

As of now, we will have to work with what we have. The phone comes with a 3700 mAh Battery. It is fast charging supportive as it was advertised. They even provided an 18-watt fast-charging brick as well. But the phone is still slow in terms of charging.

Sensors and Other Features

The fingerprint scanner is in the display, and the other sensors are installed perfectly.

Water Resistance

None provided.

FAQs

  1. Is the Phone supports dust and water resistance?

No, it has no IP certification.

  1. What is the price of the Vivo V15 Pro?

29000 INR.

Wrapping Things Up!

So that is all for today. To be honest, I am not too tempted by the phone. But for the screen and the performance, this phone will have a share in the market.
