We picked a phone in the Samsung S-series, the Samsung Galaxy S10, one of the sisters in a group of 4, the other members being Galaxy S10E, Galaxy S10 Plus and Galaxy S1O 5G which is not yet available.
On the other side of the ring, head-to-head with Galaxy S10 is the Sony Xperia XZ4. The Sony flagship device has an unfamiliar display and not so many devices out there give such a good a display. The Sony Xperia XZ4 is also called the Sony Xperia 1.
Display Comparison
The Samsung Galaxy S10 has a display of 6.1 inches, 93.2 cm square and a resolution of 1440 *3040 pixels. On the other hand, Xperia 1 has a display of 6.5 inches, 98.6 cm square with a resolution of 1644*3840 pixels. Both screens are protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 6.
Of course, the screen size determines the height and width of smartphones. The Galaxy S10 is more comfortable when held in one hand.
The Xperia 1 is rather a bit too long for one hand to handle comfortably. There, the argument comes in from Sony. The device’s screen fits more for a gaming and movie phone than for other purposes.
One choosing which of the device is best has to do with what a person wants.
Design Comparison
The first thing that catches the eyes on the Galaxy S10 is the cut-out camera on the phone’s screen just where the top bezel should be. This also sums up to the bezel-less display on the phone.
The Galaxy S10 measures 140.9*70.4*7 in size. The overall design and look is awesome.
Looking at the Xperia 1, it’s also beautifully designed too. Though, the height is a bit taller than what we expected.
The metal frame is really good in the hand. Measuring 167mm tall and 72mm wide, it is not the best one-hand held smartphone out there.
Performance Comparison
Galaxy S10 comes with Exynos 9820 and Qualcomm SDM855 snapdragon 855 (7nm) chipset while Xperia 1 comes with Qualcomm SDM855 Snapdragon 855 (7nm).
The CPU is as expected with Galaxy S10 boasting octa-core (1*2.84 and 3*2.41 Ghz Kryo 485 and 4*1.78 Ghz Kryo 485) while the Xperia 1 is equipped with octa-core (1*84 Ghz Kryo 485 and 4*1.8 GHz Kryo 485. These specs say it all, ideal phone for gaming and high demanding applications.
Camera Comparison
It would be fair to say at this point that Samsung is quite catching up on the camera trend with the Galaxy S10 coming with a triple camera on the rear.
The ultra-wide camera is really wide covering 123 degrees area. The overall camera output is 16MB which is really impressive.
Xperia 1 also boast a trio camera on the back and to say the least, is one of the best out there that comes with a mid-range device.
A perfect combination pf regular-wide, telephoto and ultra-wide camera to take pictures.
Additional features are the optical image stabilization which improves the quality of motion pictures significantly.
The Sony Xperia 1 peeps the Galaxy S10 in terms of picture quality and modes but only with a very narrow margin.
Battery Comparison
The 2 devices are equipped with really good displays and demanding to look at the picture quality in contention. So, we would expect much from the end but unfortunately, it is not what we would have wanted.
Galaxy S10 is left to be powered by a 3400 mAh capacity battery. It has a fast charging feature as expected and also charges wirelessly.
The Xperia 1 relies on a 3330 mAh capacity battery to run. Also, has the fast charging feature and charges up to 18W.
Price Comparison
The Samsung Galaxy S10 goes for £799 in the U.K while the Sony Xperia 1 cost £849 on Amazon.
